The frigid temperatures of Toronto’s winter season do not stop this community of people from choosing to live on their boats year-round. They call themselves “liveaboards” and they occupy the marinas, harbours, and waterfronts of Lake Ontario across the GTA. Some liveaboards have spent their entire life living on water, while others are just entering into their second winter season living aboard. From adjusting to living in tight spaces, to the yearly responsibility of wrapping their homes in plastic — according to the liveaboards, these burdens are small in comparison to the experience of living on a boat.
