Parkdale is going through rapid gentrification and community members are being pushed out to make room for residents who can afford expensive rents. Bhutila Karpoche, MPP of Parkdale-High Park, said neglecting to repair apartment units is one way of forcing current tenants out. Cristina Correos’ unit is routinely in disrepair. She said she would rather use the washrooms in malls because her toilet and sink at home are constantly broken. This disrepair is causing tension in her family and she is pressured to move her family out of Parkdale.
